The World’s best shooters have embarked on Bangkok, Thailand to compete at the ISSF World Cup Final in Rifle and Pistol. Olympic medallists from Beijing, World Cup final defenders and the best eight shooters from the World Cups have qualified for this prestigious event.

The 2008 ISSF World Cup Final starts this weekend at the Huamark Shooting Range in Bangkok Thailand, the second consecutive year the venue has played host to the concluding event of the 2008 World Cup season. ELEY’s Daniel Olley will be attending this year’s event supporting the many shooters who will be using ELEY ammo at the competition.

After consultation with Bert’s family, it is with great sadness that I write to confirm Bert Brookes, ELEY’s Customer Range Officer passed away at his home Sunday evening aged 68 years. A much loved figure in the shooting fraternity, Bert will be sadly missed by his many friends, colleagues and family.

ELEY attended the 2008 ELEY / NSRA Finals Competition which were held at the Lord Roberts Centre, Bisley. The final of the Prone Rifle and 3P events as well as the Lightweight Sport Rifle (Precision) Lightweight Sport Rifle (Timed), 10m Air Rifle, 10m Air Pistol, Benchrest Rifle and Cartridge Pistol were shot over the weekend of 4th and 5th October.

Recent Customer Range visitor Sheena Sharp of Bon Accord club in Aberdeen became only the second woman to win the British Prone Small-Bore Rifle Championship for the Earl Roberts Trophy on Saturday 16th August.

Rajmond Debevec of Slovenia, the current world and Olympic record holder was the highest-ranked shooter after qualification with a score of 1176, which was one point short of the Olympic record that he set at Sydney 2000. Debevec finished with a final score of 1271.7 to take the bronze medal in the Men’s 3-Positions.

Artur Ayvazian of Ukraine won the gold medal in the Men's 50m Rifle Prone with a total of 702.7 points, ahead of ELEY sponsored shooters Emmons and Potent taking the silver and bronze medals. All men on the podium shot ELEY Tenex.

The first ever World Rimfire and Air Rifle Benchrest Championships took place in Milan, Italy from 27 July to 3 August 2008, a staggering 98% of shooters were reported to be shooting ELEY cartridges at the event.

The second leg of the ISSF World Cups held in Europe took place at the “Tiro a Segno Nazionale” shooting club in Milan, Italy from 22 to 30 May. ELEY was the top choice for the Men’s 50m Rifle 3 Positions event with the top eight finalist all shooting ELEY.

An amazing performance by young shooter Neil Stirton using ELEY Tenex, claimed him his first ISSF World Cup medal in Munich and the first by a British Rifle shooter since 2003. The talented shooter duelled against the current World Champion to the last shot in the Prone Final, finishing second only by one tenth of a point.

Warren Potent - the current World’s number one in the 50m Rilfe Prone event confirmed his status by winning gold at the 50m Rifle Prone event and equaling the final world record at the ISSF World Cup in Beijing. Out of the top eight finalists, seven were shooting ELEY including Warren - testament to the outstanding quality of the .22 round and proving it’s still the choice of champions.

The first ISSF World Cup event for 2008 for Rifle & Pistol kicked off on 22nd March at the “Ten.Guilherme Paraense” shooting range of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Over 200 athletes from 44 different countries competed in ten rifle and pistol events over the six day event, the first World Cup of this Olympic year.
